McCain vs. Obama

Here a great one. Which candidate ranks better on searches for their last names?

McCain seems to have the more popular name. "McCain" was the name of Chuck Connor's character on the TV series The Rifleman. Also, when I grew up, there was a kid down the block with the last name of McCain. But I had never heard of anyone named "Obama" until Barack showed up.

For this game, I will only look at the Top Five returns for each search.

Search Term No. 1: McCain does pretty good, but he doesn't own the top spot. The No. 1 return is for Google News McCain's official site takes Nos. 2 and 3. Surprisingly, McCain has a MySpace account, and it comes in at No. 5. The No. 4 spot is taken by the ubiquitous Wikipedia and their McCain page.

So McCain shows four favorable pages in the Top five, but it can't beat out Google News for the top spot.

Now, it's Obama's turn.

Search Term No. 2: Obama.

Obama also loses the top spot to Google News, and returns Nos. 2 and 3 are for Obama's official site. The No. 4 spot is also Wikipedia, but this time, naturally, the article is on Barack.

At this point, Obama'a returns are exactly the same as McCain's. Both lose to Google News for the top spot. Both have sites that take Nos. 2 and 3. The No. 4 spot for both is Wikipedia.

The only thing left is No. 5. McCain's MySpace page is No. 5 for him. Obama also has a MySpace page, but it is not No. 5. It is No. 6. It got squeezed out by Obama's Senate web page.

So there you go. Obama vs. McCain turned out to be virtually a draw.

Just like real life.
